I traded a shotgun to my brother for an SKS. I'm not sure what type of ammo to get - caliber & efficient grain for hog duty. Can anybody help me out?

From my understanding the 7.62x39 soft point would be your best choice for hogs and whitetail (123-125 grain). It is not recommended to use the FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) military round for hunting, just the soft point. The 7.62x54R soft point is supposed to be a nice round for elk/mule deer. Hope this helps. You have some big hogs there to get!!
