The trout season on the Guadalupe River below Canyon Dam has opened for the 2010-2011 season.  GRTU along with TPWD have stocked the river with rainbow trout that average 1-3lbs, with specimens over 5lbs. caught daily.  The fish have settled into a nice pattern and have been very willing to hit a properly presented fly.  We have been nymphing primarily through the deeper guts, pools, and runs.  Streamers in deep pools and riffles have also produced, and I also had one lucky client last week nail a 22" beast on a dry fly(size 24 comparadun).  The water is low and clear, so stealth has been the key.  I have been scaling down to 5-6X tippet and leaders even occaisonally using fluorocarbon.  The boat allows us to sneak up, so we have been more successful floating than wading the last few days.  Successful patterns included; san juan worms, pheasant tails, hares ears, black midges and bwo emergers.  The holidays are a great time to hit the Guadalupe for some fly fishing and a guided trip with the Steven Bowka Guide Service makes a really great gift for the sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts in your family.  For pictures, reports or to book a trip visit our site at
